Breakout 1 Play sequence: RD recovers puck in defensive right wing corner. RD passes puck to LD. LD passes to LW. LW has choice of C or angling RW for outlet pass. Puck path is narrow black line, player path is color arrow.

Swing- In this play the LD starts with possession of the puck right behind the net in the defensive zone. The C swings in behind the net and has the option to (a) take the puck and continue up ice or (b) leave the puck for the defenseman who will come out from behind the opposite side of the net to make the first pass.

Swing (part 2)- In the above diagram, the C has swung behind the net and decoyed picking up the puck. the LD then slides left and passes to the LW. The LW now has the option to pass it to the breaking C or the angling RW to the far side.

Back Door Play- In this play, possession is gained by the LW at or below the offensive LW circle. The LW skates the puck out toward the blue line, while the LD switches down toward the outer hash marks of the left circle.

Back Door Play (cont'd)- The LD who has switched down receives the pass from LW who has rotated up to the vacated point position. To this point all action has been concentrated to the left side of the ice. During this time the RW has sneaked in behind the defense and now sits off the right post. The LD, now in possession of the puck has the choice to pass to the C in the slot or the RW just off the far post. One of the two should be wide open.
